Rebranding Amplitude

If you’re a regular on the Amplitude site, you might have noticed it’s had a facelift in recent weeks, and if you’re new around here, hopefully you’ve been wowed by our imagery, excited by our showreel, and amused by our tongue-in-cheek style. This refreshed site is just one part of a wider rebrand we’ve just completed here at Amplitude HQ.

The biggest single change is that we’ve changed the name of our agency. After countless whiteboard sessions, meetings galore, and a month of all-nighters, we decided to switch from being Amplitude Media, to become… Amplitude.

Now, that might seem like a small change, and we suppose it is in the grand scheme of things, but it ties in with why we did the rebrand in the first place…

Why Rebrand? Why Now?

There are lots of reasons companies choose to rebrand themselves. Sometimes it’s to do with company growth, other times it’s a change of direction, or an expansion of services. For us here at Amplitude, it was all three. Let’s tackle growth, first.

Amplitude was extremely lucky to actually grow during the 2020 and 2021 lockdowns, and those years represented our third and fourth consecutive years of growth. We’ve got more clients than ever, including several household brands, and we’re handling campaigns that we’d never have dreamed of when we started (seriously; there’s some incredible stuff in the works!)

And it’s not just the scale and scope of our clients and projects that’s grown, our team has too. We welcomed Susan, Lucy, and Tom in the second half of 2021, and have expanded the number of freelancers we work with on a regular basis. Behind all this, our infrastructure has grown, with new project management and operations processes in place to keep everything running smoothly.

With all these new projects and new team members, we’ve also expanded our skillset, allowing us to offer bespoke illustration and artworking, copywriting, additional types of photography, and more intricate, detailed animation than ever before.

All this change has put Amplitude on a different heading from before, making this the perfect time for us to rebrand. We’ve redefined who we are and what we do, so it only makes sense that we’d change our outward persona to match this, signalling clearly to our customers and future clients (you?!) what we’re all about.

So, What’s Changed?

We’ve mentioned the major one already: We’re Amplitude now. Our new brand persona is more confident, and dropping the ‘Media’ is a reflection of that. We don’t need ‘Media’ to tell you what we do, because our name and a single, well-selected image will tell you everything you need to know.

Connected to this greater sense of confidence is a change in our headline font, and a reduction in the use of our orange brand colour. Our previous font (the very weighty Alfa Slab One) and heavy colour usage were designed to be eye-catching and impossible to ignore. Now that we’ve built up a steady roster of big name clients and much of our business comes from word of mouth, referral, and advocacy, we’ve been able to tone things down a bit. Our new font and more subtle use of colour is again a more confident choice: our work is eye-catching enough that our fonts and colours don’t have to be.

Speaking of our work, we’re showing off a lot more of it across our site, from fancy header images to new portfolio pieces, you’ll find something stunning on every page. You might notice, however, that our social media pages are actually showing less portfolio, and there’s a brand reason behind this too:

A picture of the whole Amplitude team, as seen on our website following our rebrand.

Over the years, we’ve come to realise that it’s the people of Amplitude – not just the work – that turns first-time clients into regular ones. We’re a fun bunch to be around (if we can say so ourselves) and it’s only right that we showcase that alongside those shiny, shiny portfolio pieces. So, heading over to Instagram and Facebook, you’ll find team shots, behind the scenes videos, illustrations of our office pets, and loads more. Our social gurus are doing a great job with it, and we’d encourage you to check it out; they’re fun accounts to follow even if you’re not looking for an agency to work with.

What Next?

What’s next for Amplitude? Well, we’re working on some incredible projects with brilliant new and returning clients, and we can’t wait to see how they come together. We’ll post details of them as soon as we’re able, but in the meantime, if you want to know more about what we do, or discuss something you’ve got in mind, give us a call. We’d love to chat.
